Part of the group exhibition How I would like to blow a huge bubble around me
Video projection, 4:12 min
A man approaches a stone. The stone does not belong to him. It would be easier to leave it where it is, but he does not understand that. He believes he needs to carry it, to take it with him. To keep it close. It only causes him pain – does he find comfort in that? Has life without the stone become unbearable to him?
Through this act Bengtsson embodies an addiction to something that only causes pain. Falling back into old habits of seeking comfort in misery, despite the suffering it brings. It is about the difficulty of imagining a life without the stone. Not because it helps, but because it is familiar.
